Last night Forge had volunteered to take the last watch; he's always been an early riser, and he doubted he was going to get much sleep anyway, under these circumstances. Turns out he'd been exactly right.
The sunrise over the ocean is pretty, no denying that, but Forge can't properly enjoy it while he still has less than no idea what they're doing here or why. Or - more pressingly - what they might be facing when they head into the jungle. Given what he's heard about the various excursions the station has taken its passengers on in the past, whatever dangers are out there are apt to be very real.
The sun has cleared the horizon, and Forge stands up from the log he's been holding down for the past few hours, stretching out the one leg that requires it and preparing to wake the others so they can get a move on. As he rises, though, he catches sight of an answering movement in the foliage at the edge of the jungle. As if something has been watching.
Or waiting.
Not taking his eyes from the branch that he saw rustle, he prods the nearest sleeper with his foot. "Movement. 2 o'clock. Everyone on your feet - now."
